In the last couple of months we’ve delivered and configured multiple multiscreen installations for our customers. Multiscreen is becoming a must-have for news and elections coverage. Here’s a selection of recent installations:

Al Jazeera Balkans: 3 x 200inch backdrop, two of these huge screens are enabled for multitouch control

Markesa Bratislava: a 85inch screen for the current elections season

MBC in Dubai: have installed 2 x 103inch screens

Czech TV: have a 85inch screen in daily use for news coverage

PRVA: have a 103inch display in their studios in Serbia


Some hints for success:

· Involve the presenters! When they understand how they can tell a better story they buy into the learning curve

· Lots of practice – moving from to-camera using teleprompter to needing to look at a screen to the side, and maybe also use an iPad, takes time and practice. The presenter needs to trust the technology and his own skills to feel comfortable

· Use the Molden Media toolkits, our M2Touch Gateway software, plug-ins and workbox get you on-air quicker, and help fully exploit the power of the devices

· Think about the environment, and choose the right display and multiscreen technology. We’re experienced with everything from IPAD to huge videowalls, so please involve us as part of your planning and specification process

Update of Driver and Gateway

New primetouch driver

It is recommended to all customers that are using a primetouch driver to upgrade their installed driver.
Please also upgrade the M2Touch gateway.
The latest driver and gateway can be found on our ftp server.

Upgrade procedure

Disconnect the frame and uninstall the old driver – these items are:
- multitouch screen driver
- multitouch platform
- windows driver package – pqlabs PQHid
- windows driver package – pqlabs PQBulk

Reboot and install the new driver. Navigate to Primetouch´s driver application and turn off tuio and flash tuio.

Uninstall Gateway, delete the remaining config in c/program files/…./computers/ or when updating a new version of M2Touch Gateway (180+) specify to overwrite the old configuration.

Start the installation. Choose during the installation the protocol called NATIVE pqlabs and following options: debug symbols, debug menus, run as application, tray icon (all options are default in the installer).

We are proud to announce a new set of M2Touch-Plugins is now available!

M2Touch Drag and Drop Plugin



This plug-in implements a general drag and drop behaviour. The plug-in works similar to MT PZR except that is it is illegal to leave the object anywhere but on valid target locations. Drag operation targets can be magnetic and make the object fly automatically to the right position inside the target or fly back if the drag operation is rejected. Drag-accept call-backs, drop-action call-backs and visual feedback while dragging can be customized.

M2Touch Link Plugin





The plug-in links two property values in Viz Artist scene, either unidirectionally or bidirectionally. The property types can be either integer or float (double). The values are recomputed to the given ranges; source range A…B is mapped to target range C…D. If the input value changes, the target object property is set.

M2Touch Draw Plugin



The plug-in provides basic drawing functionality. It is possible to draw splines, circles, rectangles or custom objects. The plug-in creates Viz Engine standard Viz Engine geometry objects: Rectangle, Circle, Arrow, Ring, Nquad and 2D Ribbon.

Molden Media were present providing live graphics, personnel and other services to the TV production.



This was Stefan’s first visit to Baku, the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan.
“This was a very successful production” he said, “it’s great preparation for us prior to providing our services
for the main competition in a few month’s time. We’re looking forward to our return with the full team!”

Update:

Advice for travelers

Stefan was part of our team in Baku, and offers this travel advice:

Leave plenty of time:

My flight was delayed leaving Innsbruck and I missed the connecting flight from Vienna to Baku. So when I did eventually land in Baku I had to go directly to the production studio. And be cheerful and positive! No sympathy from Bjoern.

Prepare well in advance:

Because of the tight schedule, I was travelling with the workstation. Customs was not easy. Next time, try Fedex!

Coming home also has its challenges:

I wasn’t allowed to leave Azerbaijan! I had to buy an additional visa. The plane from Baku to Vienna was delayed, so I missed my connection again, this time it was the flight back to Innsbruck, and I now know something about the hotel options at Vienna airport…

Despite all this I’m looking forward to my next visit in couple of months.
